The building of Lakeview Elementary was decided in 1856 when it had become clear that a school was needed in the area. On April 18, 1856, a meeting was held on George Mansur Farm where voting residents had voted to raise $200 to build an 18-by-24 foot frame school. Work on the school had been delayed until 1859. An official school was built school where there had been held in a log cabin on Mansur Farm. In 1862, the school structure was moved to Lakeview's present location: The E.S. Pope Property. In order to meet the growing population and needs of the district, in 1884 it had been voted to build a larger framed school of 24-by-30 feet. C. Walker had agreed to give $500 to build the new school, taking the old school house as interest until taxes could be collected. In 1949, the Dixie School was annexed to Lakeview after land was needed for the Soo Line Railway and Highway 41. Following Dixie School, in 1956 Cowling School was annexed to Lakeview. Since the school population of Lakeview school was growing due to the addition of the Cowling and Dixie students, an expansion was needed. Two new additions were added in 1951 and 1958. The 1951 addition included 3 new brick rooms costing $79,800. After this another brick addition had been added costing $210,000 and consisting of 6 classrooms with sinks, bubblers, and many cupboards. In 1968 another addition was added costing $289,000, taking 1 year to build. This addition included 6 classrooms all carpeted, a library, and an amphitheater. Many things were accomplished at Lakeview, but in 1982 there was talk of closing the school due to low enrollment. The school had then been closed in the following year, 1983. Luckily the school reopened in 1988 and has been open ever since.
